Vocal Elimination
Questions often asked about the process.
A stereo recording has two channels of audio which contain different blends of instruments in each channel. This is what creates the stereo image of a live show. Usually the lead voice or lead instrument is recorded equally in both channels. By using "phase negation", that is electronically invert the phase of one channel and add it to the other, we can electronically negate any sound that is common to the left and right channels of a stereo recording. This will generally leave out of phase sounds and the instruments that are panned left and right and not equal to both left and right channels.
Why do some recordings work better?
The way the recording is produced and mixed, the placement and loudness of instruments, left right separation, mastering, reverb and sweetening, quality control in all phases of manufacturing all account for variances in the results we can get. Basically we are at the mercy of the production of the recording you provide us. Even though we can not guarantee results of a perfect elimination, you can help by looking for recordings that have:
1.)True stereo mixes, not synthesized stereo made from a mono recording, 2.)A fully orchestrated recording. Many instruments tends to cover the residuals such as sweetening and imperfections in the original recording you provide us.
What do I need to work with?
Often CD's work better than, Records work better than, MP3 downloads work better than, Cassettes. You may want to provide us with two versions of the same song. Sometimes the production company did a different mix for a different media. Email works too but may be limited to size by your server. We need the *.CDA or a *.WAV true stereo 44.1Khz sampled sound file. *.MP3 do not work well.
Copyrights
Any recording or variation of a recording is protected if filed with the copyrights bureau. However you can use the eliminated recording for personnel use as long as you do not profit from that use. For example you can not replicate this recording and sell it to the public. We are not lawyers and are not giving legal advice, but we recommend you contact the copyrights bureau in Washington DC for details if you intend to do more with this elimination than just personal uses.
Charges
Elimination processing of a song up to 4 minutes is $20 US regardless of the results. Over 4 minutes is $1 US per any portion of the next minute. A cassette copy of the elimination is $5.00 for a C-10. That gives you 5 minutes of continuous recording time on one side and can hold 2 songs. For a Red Book CD copy it is $10 US per disc. For us to Email the eliminated sound file direct to your computer $15 US per song provided your server can accommodate such a large file. $20 per song if you want to download from our server. (A DSL hookup will save time) We accept credit cards and pay pal. Call us 248-557-8276
