I posted a few minutes ago about video issues. I just wanted to offer some examples of Ken Glaza’s work in our field. As you can see some preeminent defense attorneys have used him as well as a fairly well known investigator. The good thing about Glaza is that he works for, and has been qualified by both sides of the street, which adds to credibility. He is one of those guys that prides himself in seeing that the truth gets out.

Get the maintenance records of the car to find out when the malfunctioning equipment was detected, fixed, etc.

At least one police agency (Macomb Sheriff) states that the deputy is supposed to put a repair ticket in when the defective recorder is noticed. Maybe Dennis Rickert could educate us as to how these things are reviewed. I know that the individual officers do not review their tapes on a daily basis. So I wonder when the defect is supposed to be noticed. Several agencies are moving toward digital technology! I believe Royal Oak has and maybe Clinton Twp. My last tape request from the latter was returned to me in DVD forma. Nice I can review it on my laptop with excellent efficiency.

FYI, both Tom Loeb and I can attest to the benefit of having Kenny Glaza www.knrforensic.com from KNR studios out there. He can take standard police videotape, copy it into digital format, make it into nice playable snippets (chapters and scenes) The process, IMHO, is not cost prohibitive. Note the below brief and motion was for an appointed case-Ken will draft a proposal that can be used for court appointed cases. I know that I have had acquittals when using Ken’s services, including the enhancement of a poor quality gas station service surveillance tapes. We got a court order [see Motion and Brief below] to produce all the camera angles and were able to capture the pre crime activity of the antagonist (case involved three thugs assailing my client’s brother and showed my client inadvertently running one of them over). Led to a conviction of invol mans from murder two, with the homicide literally captured on tape!

While I am at it, here is a motion and brief when the police produce the tape they want you to have. A bit dated but a great start.
